The Black Diamond
Songsmith Series w/ host Joey Anderson - 6pm
9614 E Sprague Ave
Spokane Valley, WA 99206

TOMMY G FROM THE 509, or “Tommy G”, as he is affectionately known around Spokane, Washington, has been writing songs, playing guitar and performing on stage since age eleven, beginning in 1976 in Timonium, Maryland. Back then they called him Tommy Gantt. Today he resides in Spokane, Washington.

His intimate and enthusiastic performances are both highly entertaining and engaging, particularly for those who enjoy the music of his primary songwriting influences, namely James Taylor, Jim Croce, Billy Joel, and Paul Simon, as Tommy covers many of their songs in his live stage act. While his smile is always apparent in his live performances, many have commented on how his voice actually sounds as though he’s smiling when he sings.

Although Tommy’s musical genre is officially classified as “Americana”, his music combines elements of folk, pop, blues, jazz, and rock in unique, yet somehow familiar combinations; always featuring evocative and thoughtful content about current events or other hot button topics. Whatever is moving Tommy emotionally drives his musical and lyrical content.

Tommy says, “My primary purpose is to send them home smiling, so I make sure to smile a lot while I’m performing. After all, smiles are contagious, right?” Since 2007,

Tommy has performed in venues ranging from medium-security prisons in Kootenai, Idaho, to restaurant patios in Phoenix, Arizona, to giant mega-music-festival stages in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. He is currently a regular solo acoustic performer/entertainer in the Inland Northwest region of the USA, while still doing several impromptu street performances for tips each summer. He has maintained a rigorous 150+ appearance-per-year schedule since 2010.

In Spring 2014 Tommy released his very first all-solo acoustic album, “Sound Of A Smile”, whose name was largely inspired by the feedback from his fans. Produced by David Fender on his Crestline Records label, the album has sold over 1,000 copies in less than four years at his live performances.

Currently, Tommy is recording his next release at Spokane Recording Studio in Spokane Valley, WA, home of Hitstreet Records and Owner/Producer Michael Schettler, who helped launch the career of 2018’s most downloaded artist, Jerad Finck.

Tommy’s next release is expected in 2020.
